The cruel uneventful state of apathy releases me

I have basically given up on Property.  I’ve been reading over practice exams all day, and there’s no way I’m going to know enough by the time the final rolls around on Friday.  Even though an A+ answer is a score of 50%, I don’t feel like I am getting anywhere near that number of points on the practices.

Oh well.  I am past the point of caring about this last exam.  All I want is to take two weeks off and relax.

I had my Torts exam yesterday, which was pretty difficult.  I don’t think I did great, but that’s in the past.

Property, and freedom, on Friday.  That’s going to be the hardest one.

Oh, shit + 1

So the crim final was a blast.  The first section, worth 80% was an “issue spotter.”  It was basically a two page story with tons of crimes, and I had to go through and write about as many crimes as possible (limited to 3200 words).  The second section was a choice between two “policy” questions, in which the goal was to be as far left communist as possible when writing answers that would appeal to my super-liberal professor.  If you said that prisoners should be given mansions in West LA, that was pretty much an automatic A answer.

Anyway, I was incredibly relaxed for the first four hours…probably a bit too relaxed.  By the time 2:00 rolled around I started to panic more and more.  I answered the first policy question, before deciding it was garbage and writing the second policy question.  That left me with a limited amount of time to edit my issue spotter, and I had to hastily cut 200 words right in the last 10 minutes of the exam.  It’s okay, though, because I am done with the final I was most dreading, and only two finals away from two weeks of freedom.

Oh, shit…

Nine hours until the start of my first exam; an eight hour exploration of the criminal law.  I decided to take it at home instead of at school (it’s a take home final), so I’ll be in my room all day – surrounded by cookies and Mountain Dew.  I feel confident that I’ll get at least a B, but after that it’s anyone’s guess.

I’ll post more after the test is done…maybe.

Also, Happy Birthday to my uncle!

Next time you’re stealing a VCR, make sure you don’t kill a guy.

My new favorite crime is “mayhem.”

Although it traditionally meant reckless removal of a body part, the modern understanding is “running amuck and vandalizing.”  In California this is a first degree felony murder felony, and if you kill somone in the act of “mayhem” you can be convicted of felony murder.

That means that you better think twice before joining any California riots (as if the LA riots weren’t reason enough), because you can be convicted and sentenced to death if someone dies as a result of your runing amuck.

La-la-lawyered.

That was fast.

Today was the last day of instruction for my first semester of law school.  I can’t believe how quickly the semester went by.  Now begins the longest 17 days of my life.  My first final is one week from today, with a 4-5 day break between every other final.  On December 19th, expect me to be incapacitated within an hour of my Property exam ending.

Here’s my upcoming schedule:

12/2-12/4: Try to finish my outlines (note: this is unlikely to actually occur)

12/4-12/9: Crim Land (where robbers shoot at their victims, but miss and kill a girl across the street who is being raped by an insane man who was provoked by his wife’s adultery)

12/10-12/15: Tort Land (where policy considerations don’t matter, and cows and children are regularly run over by trains, cars, and speeding wagons)

12/16-12/19: Property Land (where octogenarians are capable of having children after deeds are made, servitudes have to benefit and burden land, and gifts can’t be revoked unless they’re put in an inter vivos trust)

Lawyered.
