Big Jerry Seinfeld: 1995-2007
My car, Jerry, has been having periodic troubles for the past few weeks. I was able to get the car back to Friendswood fine, but on Tuesday the problems got much worse. I was taking it to the dealer to have the transmission fixed when the car began dying in first gear. On my way home, the car died more than ten times, and nearly left me stranded in the middle of two intersections. The problem was scary enough to get my parents to finally agree to get me another car without as many problems. I was hoping the Saab would last a little longer, so I could get a nice new car, but at least I won’t have to worry about dying while I’m driving for a few more years.
I wanted a McLaren SLR, but for some reason my father didn’t want to mortgage the house. I was willing to lower my expectations to a new Aston Martin, but he wasn’t feeling very generous.
Enter “new” used car….
So far it’s been great; it’s extremely comfortable, smooth and quiet. I’m still getting used to driving a slightly larger, heavier car, but I think I’m really going to enjoy it. The car doesn’t have a name yet, but I am open to suggestions. So far all that’s been offered is Lexus-Nexis, which is a no-go.
Tonight we visited Taylor at Dairy Queen, drove around Clear Lake, played 27 holes of Putt-Putt and hung out at the “Rocket” park off El Camino. We ended up “borrowing” a putter from Putt-Putt which will come in handy next weekend at 40 Acres Fest. DSC is going to have a putt putt hole as our attraction at the event, complete with custom printed DSC golf balls. We will be building the hole sometime before the festival, so let me know if you have any creative ideas for obstacles, etc.
This weekend was a lot of fun! Thursday we had David Gergen come speak on campus. His speech was fine, but the dinner at Moonshine was a lot of fun. Then, on Friday I pre-gamed with some friends at my apartment before having an incredible time at Austin Karaoke! We got our own room so we could make fools of ourselves in private, the place was BYOB, and it didn’t close until 4 AM! The highlights of the night included: “Iris”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and “Don’t Stop Believing”!
Clapton “make his guitar sing” (according to Jenna’s mom). The concert was incredible, singing “Rent” in the car was almost as good, and two helpings of Mexican food made the night all that much better. I’ve now heard “Layla” live. Be very very jealous.
This week’s Heroes (for those of you who watch it) was the first episode in which I almost cared for Mohinder’s storyline. Only took 3/4 of the season. That show keeps getting better and better. I love the trend of having successful comic book writers transition into television. They have created/written for some of the most exciting shows on TV in the past few years. If only they would start hiring them to do some of the Marvel/DC movies!
