Welcome to College.
And so ends August…one of the longest months in recent memory. It was one of those months were everything you did went by really quickly, but the periods of nothingness seemed to drag on forever. I started out the month with a trip to South Dakota to see my cousins. I had expected the trip to be fun, mainly because I hadn’t seen them in two years, but never as cool as it ended up being. Basically, we spent the first half of the week in the National Parks in Northern South Dakota (not North Dakota, you see, because it doesn’t exist). We saw Rushmore, and I don’t mean the movie….then went into the Badlands, which is like the Grand Canyon but much smaller. Still, it was really cool and we got to go climbing around a lot. When we got back to Yankton (my cousin’s hometown), we shopped and went out on their neighbor’s boat (This neighbor just happened to be the Speaker of the House in South Dakota, and he was really cool.)

Anyway, so we got back from South Dakota and then my dad and I drove up to Memphis to see my Great Aunt, her son Jimmy Dean and my Grandpa. It was great….I spent so much time at that house when I was young but I hadn’t visited in the last five years. So we lounged around, watched the Olympics and made jokes about the hoards of grown men that came to town that week for “Death Week”, a celebration of Elvis’s death (or faked death. dun, dun, dun.) These fans would go to Graceland, light candles in honor of The King and cry. And people think my life is sad….
So, the week after that was basically spent watching Michael Phelps be the complete badass that he is. I became addicted to the Olympics…that is, until I moved in to my dorm at UT!
I moved in last Saturday, blah blah blah. The dorm room is pretty nice (in a shitty dorm room kinda way…I’m sure it is garbage compared to the rooms in Lectner, etc.). I have a nice set-up going where I put my laptop at the end of my desk and lie in bed (laptop at my feet) to watch movies. I even have wireless headphones to I don’t piss off my roommate. Speaking of Jeremiah, he’s pretty cool and we get along fine but he’s never around. Now, I’m not complaining (at all), but it’s pretty funny. Everyone else in my dorm is talking about how much they hate their roommates and most nights I get to sleep alone! So, the first couple of days on campus I slowly began to get a feel for things. However, I soon found out that my dorm was probably the least social place on campus. Everyone shuts their doors and never leaves and no one really knows the people around them. This bothere
d me, but I’ve met a few people recently that think it’s retarded as well and I’m sure we’ll begin to hang out more.
Classes are fine, I’m studying a lot, blah blah…the real excitement of living on campus (unleash the inner nerd!) is in this program DC ++….it allows you to connect directly to other people on campus and download movies and music…I mean, non copyrighted material, etc. Anyway, I’ve spent part of the last week watching every episode of Scrubs ever made. If you’ve spoken to me at all since I moved in, I’ve probably mentioned this to you more than once! Anyway, the new season starts tonight and I’m psyched.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the UT/UNT football game this weekend as well as meeting more people this weekend! So there you go…I FINALLY updated my site. Granted, it’s not much but it is something.
